The Japs Rock Melbourne Cup!

The BBQ
Melbourne Cup Day was rather gloomy. The sun tried to break out of the clouds throughout the day but it wasnt to be. Nevertheless, it was still a good day for a bbq. Atleast it didnt rain. Bbq was a success, didnt think so many people could fit into the tiny house. Ball Breaker was the earliest arrival with Starbucks Coffees and Kahlua. Yummy :-) One best friend was there, where was the other? Not even an offer to help out in the morning. Cant really say he's a bad friend. After all he was at TQ's bbq at 9am to help buy all the meat and drinks. What a considerate friend. Yeah right! Too bad he's just got all his priorities wrong. The need to impress people is quite sad. But the lack of consideration to help your best mate, is unacceptable behaviour! Like Ball Breaker says, he doesnt feel there is a need to impress The Mouse anymore after being friends for more than 10 years. How true and how sad.
The race was on and The Teacher took charge by collecting money from everyone so we could bet amongst ourselves. By the time anyone remembered the Melbourne Cup was on, it was already too late to run to TAB to place a bet. I know nothing about horses or horse racing but I knew the Japanese had two horses in the race and those were the horses I wanted to bet on. I dont know why, just felt the need to see an international horse win the race this time around and why not a Japanese horse? Delta Blues was my pick and what a great pick that was. Not only did Delta Blues come first, the other Japanese horse came second. Go the Japs! The Cock had his money on the race favourite Yeats, and tried to swindle my winnnings by telling me his horse came first (told you I know nothing about horse racing!). Silly me, I was willing to give him the money because I believed him! Bloody hell!
Someone was engrossed in conversation all afternoon. He had braved the akwardness and pleasantly sat with her on the sofa. This was an achievement that shows they can still be friends. He's made his move, now it's your turn.
Someone else was passed out on the sofa most of the afternoon. We didnt even notice her drinking, but we certainly noticed her sleeping. She took up the whole sofa and KM wasnt impressed. How funny.
Ball Breaker spent almost all afternoon watching bloody soapies on tv. One after another. She made sure everyone watched it with her as well. Nobody in the party was allowed to watch anything else or even listen to the radio because she had the tv on full blast over Days of Our Lives. She had the option of watching tv upstairs by herself, but no, she couldnt leave the party downstairs. That would be rude. But staying with the party and with the tv on full blast seemed a better option. NOT! You need to control your soapie addiction, it's getting out of hand!
KM and TOT had cravings for chilli chicken yet again! This time Princess Model and myself were keen to get our hands (or mouths) on some chilli chicken too. KM rang the restaurant over and over - no luck. Must've been closed for the Cup day. Damn it! I wonder what spices they use in this "painfully addictive" chilli chicken? We just cant get enough of it. We were willing to go into the city to pick it up and bring it back to the party for dinner. Are we crazy?
Shaolin and Princess Model brought beautiful desserts from Brunetti. They have the best cakes and desserts. Coffees are good too. I just dont like the self service concept, so takeaway is always a good idea with Brunetti. He also brought wine and bubbly (the expensive ones *wink*). I'm not one to notice these things but I was reminded later of the wine purchasing experience. Shaolin has done well. Very sociable guy, cool and fun to hang out with. From one cock to another. It's bizarre! Same name, same car, same star, same taste in women?
Melbourne Cup 2006 was a success. Good win, good food, good drinks, good friends, good laugh! Another bbq will be in order when Mr and Mrs S come back.
